Swiftwater – Rescue in Flowing & Flooded Waters
Expert responders trained to save lives in fast-moving and hazardous water conditions
Swiftwater Training
Swiftwater Rescue Technician Level 1 is a professional certification that prepares members to safely and effectively conduct rescue operations in swiftwater and flood environments. Certified members gain skills in swiftwater rescue fundamentals, including hazard identification, risk assessment, personal protective equipment, self-rescue, swimming techniques, throw bag rescue, rope-based rescue systems, shallow water crossings, and boat-based rescue operations. Hands-on training provides members with the knowledge and skills necessary to respond safely and effectively to technical swiftwater rescue scenarios.
WCSO SAR includes members with specialized technical training in this area. While technical rescue operations are conducted by appropriately trained personnel, all members are encouraged to participate in training opportunities to become familiar with the equipment, procedures, and supporting roles necessary for successful rescue operations.
