Winter Mountain Rescue – Specializing in Alpine Rescue
Trained responders who operate in technical backcountry conditions
Winter Mountain Rescue Team
The Wallowa County Search and Rescue (SAR) Winter Mountain Rescue Team is a highly trained, volunteer-based unit specializing in emergency response in steep, snow-covered terrain that is often inaccessible by snowmobile or other motorized equipment. Equipped with backcountry ski and alpine climbing gear, rescue tarps, SKEDS, and toboggans, our team operates effectively in remote, high-angle environments where swift action can save lives. Members bring advanced medical and avalanche training, along with extensive experience in winter backcountry travel. We work closely with the Winter Motorized SAR Team to coordinate efficient search and rescue operations and collaborate with local outfitters, guides, avalanche forecasters, and ski patrols to strengthen emergency response across the Wallowa Mountains.
